A women's rugby blitz comprising of teams from Birr, Mullingar and Tullamore was held in Birr today
On a beautiful afternoon with conditions ideal for playing rugby, the Birr girls hosted teams from Mullingar and Tullamore at both under 15 and 18 levels. This was a serious test for the girls as both visiting teams are Premier League sides and well experienced at this level. It turned out to be an enjoyable afternoon of rugby. Neither Birr side managed a win, although the U18 girls went very close to pulling off a shock win over Mullingar, losing out narrowly by 12 points to 10. Overall both squads of girls put in very credible performances, particularly the U15 girls who in most instances are playing rugby for the very first time! The experiences on the day will stand them well in their upcoming Leinster League campaigns.
We would like to thank everybody concerned for making this a very enjoyable afternoon, our visiting teams, referees Brendain Molloy and John Heffernan, all the parents and supporters who helped out in the kitchen and the coaches and mentors of both sides.
Finally to all our players who performed wonderfully on the day, well done and best wishes for the year ahead!
